Lebara Mobile joins list of Aussie MVNOs
UK-based company Lebara Mobile has launched its pre-paid mobile services in Australia under a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal with Vodafone, according to Australian IT. The company will target the growing expatriate market in the country, focusing on lower international call costs. ‘One in four people in Australia are born outside of the country, so there is huge opportunity for us to serve their needs and provide cheap mobile rates to their friends and family overseas,’ Lebara Mobile chief executive Yoganathan Ratheesan said. Whilst local and national calls will be resold over the Vodafone network, international calls are expected to route through Lebara’s headquarters in the UK. International call costs will start from AUD0.05 (USD0.03) per minute to China and AUD0.09 per minute to the UK and USA.
